The Minnesota Corn Growers Association is currently seeking students who are interested in serving Minnesota’s corn growers as an Agvocate (“Advocate for Agriculture”). The program is designed to create a learning environment to encourage the development of young leaders in agriculture. It also strives to build awareness of issues facing corn farmers and develop young leaders into skilled advocates for these issues.
Agvocates will be given opportunities to become actively involved with corn and agriculture, develop leadership, communication and advocacy skills through hands-on experiences, social media avenues as well as networking with agricultural professionals. Among other benefits of the program, Agvocates will receive a $3000 scholarship.
Eligible candidates must be between the ages of 18 and 24 and be enrolled in 2-year or 4-year post-secondary education or training program. Participants will be required to attend the Minnesota Agriculture Ambassador Institute in June, MCGA-related events, advocate through Facebook or Twitter as well as blog for MCGA’s Minnesota Cornerstone blog.
Applications and program information can be found attached to this email, online at www.mncorn.org or by calling the MCGA office at 952-233-0333. The deadline to apply is April 15, 2011. Applicants will be interviewed and chosen by May 25.
