Iowa State University Extension will hold a crop advantage series meeting at the Dickinson County Community Building on Jan. 14.
Registration begins at 9:30 a.m., with the program from 10 a.m.-3:30 p.m. The meeting is being hosted by Extension Field Agronomist Paul Kassel.
ISU Extension Entomologist Erin Hodgson, will lead the morning program and will discuss some of the issues with soybean aphid management that occurred in 2009. Corn aphids were a problem in some areas in 2009 and Hodgson will also address those issues.
Palle Pedersen, ISU Extension soybean production and management specialist will also be featured during the morning program. Pedersen will discuss the results of his research on tillage systems for soybeans.
The remainder of the program will feature workshop sessions in the afternoon.
Topics will include a review of crop diseases, corn planting site information, potassium fertilizer management, and a discussion of corn nematodes. Workshop sessions will also include grain marketing, nitrogen fertilizer management and current issues in weed management.
Advance registration is $35 and includes workshop materials, lunch and refreshments. Registration less than one week before the meeting, or at the door is $45.
Certified crop advisors can obtain up to five continuing education unit credits for an additional fee of $25. Private pesticide applicators will be able to obtain their continuing instructional course credits at the meeting for an additional fee of $20.
